The sales of electric appliances increased by more than a million units in 2018, according to the latest Nielsen data.
The report released by Nielsen said sales of all types of electric appliance, including electric power tools, were up by 20.7% to a record high of 1.89 billion units.
Electric appliances were the fastest-growing segment of the sales mix, up 15.6% to 1.5 billion units, while electric-power appliance sales also grew, up 14.6%, to 724.5 million units.
The report said overall sales of electricity-powered appliances rose by 17.7%, to a total of 2.49 billion units in 2017.
However, the report noted that the majority of those sales are being generated in China, and there is a significant slowdown in growth in the United States.
The main categories of sales in 2018 included electric power-generators (up 4.9% to 2.76 billion units), electric power adapters (up 9.5% to 4.28 billion units) and electric appliances (up 10.6%.).
Electric appliances accounted for more than half of the growth in 2017, up 21.1% to 8.48 billion units compared to 2016.
However, the company has said it is now seeing strong demand in the US and Europe for its appliances.
In January, the US market for electric appliances was up by 10.7%.
